JOIKUSPOT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A) JoikuSpot Light does not work well in my device. What to do?

The very first thing you should do is to try JoikuSpot Premium Edition, which most likely fixes the problem as it supports the full network protocol stack for broadband internet connectivity.

JoikuSpot Light is a limited edition and does not support all the network connectivity options. You can test the Premium Edition for free by downloading the trial file here.

Premium Edition gives you also loads of additional benefits such as optimized connection speed and stability, access to email, Skype and Messenger services and secured access to corporate intrawebs (VPN). In addition, you will get rid of the forced first internet landing page.

B) What is the main difference between JoikuSpot Light and Premium?

JoikuSpot Light supports only HTTP and HTTPS protocols allowing user to surf in normal and secure websites. JoikuSpot Premium supports ALL protocols allowing user to use Outlook, YouTube, Web radios, FTP, VPNs, Skype and other programs requiring specific protocols.

C) Why doesn't JoikuSpot Light support YouTube, Outlook or Skype?

JoikuSpot Light supports only HTTP and HTTPS protocols. YouTube, Outlook and Skype require JoikuSpot Premium supporting all protocols.

D) I'm using JoikuSpot Light with Firefox and also with Internet Explorer. Why doesn't JoikuSpot open secure web site?

Please set your browser to support automatic proxy configuration. You can do it easily under settings. Please use JoikuSpot Help document for further information.

E) Why does JoikuSpot appear as computer to computer (ad hoc) network?

Currently Symbian OS used in Nokia phones does not support WLAN infrastructure mode.

F) Why doesn't JoikuSpot work with Sony PSP or Nintendo DS?

Sony PSP and Nintendo DS require WLAN infrastructure mode. JoikuSpot does not support this yet.

G) Is JoikuSpot Light really totally free?

Installing and using JoikuSpot Light is free. However depending of your data package your operator may be charging from the transferred data amount. Please consult your operator. We encourage users to upgrade to fixed monthly data packages.

H) Why do I see www.joikuspot.com every time I start JoikuSpot Light?

Pre-defined landing page is the first web page when using the free JoikuSpot Light service. You can get rid of the forced landing page by upgrading to the commercial JoikuSpot Premium Edition.

I) How do I secure my access so that it is not accessible by others?

Connection encryption and access point authentication is the feature in JoikuSpot Premium Edition. Upgrade to JoikuSpot Premium at www.joikushop.com to enable securing your JoikuSpot connection.

J) I have been using an old version of JoikuSpot Light and I would like to upgrade to the latest version. What should I do?

Please uninstall the old version first from your phone. You can do it under Tools Application Manager in your Nokia phone. Then install the new version. If you want to upgrade to Premium Edition, you can conveniently download it from www.joikuspot.com/mobile.

K) I see several different Access Points from my operator when starting JoikuSpot. Which one should I choose?

Please choose the one that allows you to access internet directly. WAP gateway sharing is not supported.

L) I have Firewall program in my smartphone and it prevents the usage of WLAN ad hoc networks. What should I do to allow JoikuSpot to work?

Please lower the security level to "Low". It will allow the usage of WLAN ad hoc networks.

M) I have problems starting JoikuSpot. My phone is about one year old. What should I do?

JoikuSpot requires that the phone has relatively new firmware inside. You can easily update the phone's firmware with Nokia Software Updater. Just go http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate

N) My JoikuSpot starts, runs for a little while and then suddenly turns to a Stopped mode. Next time I start, it runs smoothly. Why the instability?

JoikuSpot uses ad hoc wlan network mode. There are 3 frequencies/channels available in ad hoc mode. JoikuSpot selects one of them randomly at each start. If there is another WLAN base station nearby or in very close proximity that happens to use the same frequency, this may interfere with your JoikuSpot connection. Please turn off other WLAN base stations near-by or move further away from the cause, or re-start the JoikuSpot to allocate a new frequency.

O) JoikuSpot creates the WLAN connection successfully. However, the browser doesn't connect and gives an error message?

JoikuSpot requires Ad Hoc WLAN mode to enable web connection. Please configure your WLAN device WLAN settings to allow use of Ad Hoc networks, and if possible, set the JoikuSpot connection as primary/default WLAN network, so that your WLAN device wouldn't get interrupted by other WLAN networks near-by.

P) I get message "Cannot Start JoikuSpot" during start-up? What to do?

If you get this note "Cannot start JoikuSpot" it is most probable due to other application using the WLAN in your phone at the same time. It might be a VoIP client or something similar. Check that the WLAN is free before starting JoikuSpot. JoikuSpot requires that the WLAN is totally usable for it. If other application tries to use it at the same time there will be collation. This has something to do with the WLAN drivers on the phone that are preventing multiple applications using the same WLAN interface.

Q) I do not have 3G available and I'm using GPRS. Every time there's a call the data connection seems to drop down. What to do?

Unfortunately GPRS networks do not support data connection and calls simultaneously. 3G networks are supporting similar data and voice connections.

R) I just bought Apple iTouch. It does not work with JoikuSpot. What to do?

Apple iTouch requires that the first registration to internet is done by using a fixed WLAN access point. Please use it once with fixed WLAN access point and then it will work with JoikuSpot as well.

S) The VPN connection does not work.

VPN is not supported in free JoikuSpot Light. Please upgrade to JoikuSpot Premium at www.joikushop.com to enable VPN connectivity, coupled with support for all network protocols including email clients and messengers. You can also secure your Premium JoikuSpot connection.
